3D Seismic and Other Exploration-Based Technologies for Geohazards Assessment (Part I)
Reliable identification and assessment of sea floor and shallow geologic conditions are critical to safe and economical exploration and development of offshore petroleum resources. Partly as a result of technological improvements in seismic data acquisition and processing, and widespread use of workstations to interpret the data, conventional 3-D seismic exploration data is now routinely being used, often in conjunction with high-resolution site-survey data, to help assess drilling hazards. Exploration seismic data are also increasingly being used for other engineering applications, including preliminary assessment of foundation conditions and pipeline routes. Companion Sessions in the morning and afternoon focus on the benefits and limitations of using 3-D seismic and other exploration-based technologies for geohazards and engineering applications.

Advancements in Piled Foundation Analysis and Design (Part I)
In this first of two sessions on piled formations, advances in determining axial capacity in granular soils are presented. Data from several sites worldwide, which incorporate analytical analyses, instrumented pile load test and pile monitoring results, are reviewed and compared to current practice. New methodologies are examined.

Optimization of 3D Seismic Surveys
The session focus is on planning, acquiring, processing and interpreting 3D seismic surveys. There is an emphasis on cost effectiveness of surveys, data improvement through data processing techniques and integration of 3D Seismic data with other data types, e.g., gravity and magnetics.
